 There have been few blade styles that have had kept the same allure with collectors throughout history as the Leaf blade sword! Although it had its peak of use in the bronze age, it remains significant today as it is the blade form carried in battle by the armies of ancient cultures including that of the Ancient Roman Empire!

The leaf blade sword is believed to have its origin as an extension in length of a dagger. Generally short in length (less than 24”) with a meaty symmetrical blade, this ancient warrior’s sword was dramatic in appearance and was especially suited for slashing and hacking. The sword gains momentum naturally when wielded and actually feels light and maneuverable due to the forward weight of the blade. It purposely extended the arms reach and thus supplied a more powerful impact on contact without expending additional effort so it served well in battle.
Later in history, the leaf blade was adapted for a pole, intended for direct stabbing which when trust deeply, created a wound allowing blood to release quickly weakening the foe. This was a very useful blade design for hunting wild game such as boars where the necessity of weakening the prey quickly was important. Alas, it did work similarly well in battle against horse and human opponent.
Today, archaeological remnants found in many parts of the world. It has been concluded that the Leaf Blade Sword has been in use by Ancient Roman cultures, however it would also be prudent to say this design was not limited to one particular region nor group, as leaf shaped blades were found in northern areas of the continent among Celtic artifacts as well as in the ancient civilization regions bordering the Mediterranean sea.

Our Ancient Warrior leaf Blade sword by Battlecore is a fine representation of a leaf shaped sword with an apa-type contour blade (circa 17th century BC).  As with all our Battlecore Blades it boasts a full slab tang blade which is hand forged from high carbon steel for strength and durability. We have added a short crossbar hilt keeping a curvature to its form and adorned the face with brass stud detailing reminiscent of swords of this time period. It has an overall length of 21-1/2” which is perfect for close maneuvering.
